Save the Polars!
I was driving to work this morning in my usual half-asleep state with MixFM on as usual. Personally, I think the female DJs are really bad because most times they crap on without doing any research, whatsoever, and in doing so, miseducate the public. This morning’s lesson was that the polar ice caps are melting and all the poor polar bears in the ANTARTIC are losing their homes!
Okay, time for a geography lesson:
The earth has two poles, the Artic and Antartic. The penguins happily live on the Antartic while the polars live on the ARTIC and the twain shall never meet because the world’s oceans never froze over fully for the bears to migrate down south! Otherwise I’m sure penguins will be extinct by now and the polars will be fat, happy little campers!
What sparked this off? Well, it’s World Environment Day today and this year the focus is on the rapidly melting polar ice caps. How does it affect you?
Melting polar ice caps = Rising water levels = The buggering KL floods that our “not-so-SMART” tunnel can’t handle
Why? Because the not-so-SMART tunnel was launched and opened before the flood mitigation section was ready. And we all say…bollocks! Don’t put your hands behind your back and open wide innocent eyes while shrugging don’t know!Â
Anyway *breathe and chases away -ve chi* what real things can we do to save poor Mr Polar?
- Use your aircond at the optimal level of 25 degrees
- Don’t shower in boiling hot water. Better still, shower with a friend! *wink*
- Walk more…yes in wet weather and through not-so-SMART floods
- Collect rain (or flood!) water to water your plants. Plenty of that around, not-so-SMART, remember?
- Use energy-saving bulbs
- Turn off your electrical outlets when not in use. Even keeping them in standby uses energy
- Recycle and don’t litter, biodegradable material or not
- Reject products with too much packaging. More packaging means more manufacturing means more emissions
- Plant trees, even that little plant in your bathroom helps!
- Learn more about what you can do!
So while we’re putting on our snowsuits and tying our huskies to our sled to charge off on a Mission Polar, don’t forget to run NORTH, not SOUTH!
You know you want to save this little guy:

*puts on snow suit, straps on tennis rackets and aligns compass NORTH* Ahoy! Off to save the polar bears I go! *runs south to Singapore Zoo*
Pinkelle bleats: Mwahahahahahaha…*falls off the chair laughing* I heard something about Singapore Zoo wanting to move their polar bears…maybe it’s to the ANTARTICA! Oh woe the little penguins!
Wow… and if you could come up with all this while driving half asleep… think of all the endangered species you could save fully awake! LOL!
Pinkelle says: LOL Rinnah!
No wonder I was all *scratching head and squinting eyes* wondering about the North and South Poles this morning. I thought maybe I was the one half-asleep and heard Ikapedia wrongly. Well thanks to PE
I need not relearn my Geography *phew!*
BAH to MixFM. Even the tagline “she does not have all the answers but at least she tries” is not going to cover her “behinds” this time.
Pinkelle says: Was it Ika? I thought it was SerenaC! Whichever, they’re both equally bad when it comes to bloopers like this. Do some research la before the show! *rants*
And another: We should rant less for all the hot air produced!
Pinkelle blushes: Guilty, guilty, guilty!
y’know, if we just keep on running up North, we’ll end up South anyway, since the earth is round! *hugs penguins and polar bears*
Pinkelle says: Hmm..I never thought of it that way, May! But then again, you’re such a nice +ve chi girl *hugs May*
I note your very Malaysian spelling of ARCTIC and ANTARCTIC. I think you need to research that too…before you blog about it! Laff! Anyway, don’t forget our arctic fox, arctic wolf, musk ox, moose, lemming, walrus and wolverine friends in the north and our leopard seal, blue whale and orca friends down south! Conserve energy and trees! Save our animals!
What I missed and would like to see most in Norway - the aurora borealis!
Pinkelle says: *blush* Ooops…boo-boo!
Oh, another addition to your collection of creatures unique to the Arctic would of course be our dear ol’ Santa Claus! Where does Father Christmas live? Some say he lives in the Finnish Lapland…others say at the North Cape in Norway…
I’ll let you decide…as long as he brings my Christmas pressie every year!
Pinkelle says: Better not let that old guy go extinct! Save ol’ Santa!!
