I’m a Barbie Girl
Were you a Barbie Girl? I was but back then, Barbies costed an arm and a leg (not even a plastic one at that!) and so it was a big big deal when Dad bought me my first Barbie.

She looked something like this. Basic blonde hair and blue eyes with funny bendable arms and legs. Funny thing was after I got my Barbie, I realised that I didn’t know how to play with her! I didn’t know playing meant usually having more than one doll to play with and more clothes and shoes! Talk about starting fashion and style young!
Fast forward more than 10 years later, I was in the mall yesterday when I came across a whole display of Barbies. I was amazed to see how far they’ve come from the basic Barbie I used to have. Look at their different faces and expressions! Some are really beautiful and amazingly, not one Barbie here looks alike!

Barbie’s come a long long way. When women started getting empowered, she took on a multitude of professions from Vet Barbie to Astronaut Barbie. When the world became a global village, she became brown, black, Latino and Asian!
But through it all, her hair remains as perfect, her smile always radiant, her figure forever perfect and her makeup flawless as always! Who wouldn’t want perfectly mascara-ed eyes like hers?!

And this is my favourite doll from the shelf - a beautiful Bridal Barbie! There’s just something about her smile that’s really sweet. Probably because she’s marrying her Prince Charming!

And speaking of Prince Charming, this is the loyal steadfast Ken who has stood by his Barbie through the years as she dabbled her pretty feet in the career world, preened on the catwalk in designer threads and flirted with other dolls.

I say we all need a Ken in our lives!

We tried to give your barbie a makeover with a marker pen remember? That was the end of barbie LOL! And ken used to have plastic hair :O
Pinkelle bleats: Did we?! :O LOL…making over Barbie already even then! Yeah Ken looked real pariah!
Oh I never had a Barbie but Mattel has been making lots of money from me. See, friends with baby girls are always throwing a “Barbie Birthday Party” *aiyo* I bought like 6 last year?
Pinkelle says: Yeah, I’ve been buying lots of Barbies for pressies too! How lucky little girls are today!
I like Barbies! To see, but not to play, that is. My mum was very confused why her precious princess (me!) would only admire her Barbie doll and not really dress it up and play like other litttle girls. My response was, “It’s too pretty to play with everyday.” LOL!
Pinkelle says: LOL! But some Barbies are really too beautiful to play with like that Bridal Barbie or Collectors Barbie. Apparently their resale value increases only if they’ve never been opened!
I love Barbies too! Not to play with, but to admire, although last year when we were at King’s wife’s place, we played with some.. LOL!
Pinkelle says: Hmm?! Play?! *looks up at May’s comment*
would you believe it? I never owned a Barbie. can’t say I miss owning one either. maybe she made an entrance to my life a little late, I was almost 10 by that time.
LOL @ LB! yes, he had a naughty time playing with those Barbies and Ken… in different positions… *ahem*
Pinkelle says: LOL! Cannot corrupt little girls’ toys la!
where u tag me? not the food one? i done that liao!
Pinkelle says: Sorry Wuching…check back here tmw!
Still getting used to the WP delayed publishing feature! Sorry ah…
My sister used to own a Barbie too. At that age of infancy when boys are curious as cats about the opposite sex, I once peeped up Barbie’s skirt to see what was it that was different. Unfortunately, that didn’t reveal much!
Pinkelle says: Infancy?! I thought boys were curious only when they hit puberty! You peaked early! :O
They are lovely, but as you said, they cost an arm and a leg!
PE says: Welcome Neo! They can be quite cheap if you know where to look!
