Great Singapore Sale - finally!

Since my last post on going down to Singapore, I guess some of you must be wondering why I have not displayed my loot! Well, because for some strange reason or another, everytime we tried to plan a trip, it could never materialise! Well, this time, by hook or by crook, we decided to go down today to hit the last weekend of the Great Singapore Sale. Even as I type, I just heard from ParisB that she was making her way across the Causeway!

However, the way my life goes, it can never be without its pink fluffy moments. I bought my Airebus bus ticket yesterday for an evening bus today after work. Headed back to my temporary digs (our house is undergoing some repair work) to pick up whatever I could since I hadn’t brought over much stuff and started to pack. When I went to collect my passport, that was when my pink fluffy moment struck! My bankcard was left in our house which was inaccessible and which meant no money! Caught between a rock and a hard place, I had to decide to scrap the trip and forgo my bus ticket.

However, thanks to a helpful brother who offered to send me back to our house to try to get in and retrieve my card, there may be a glimmer of hope yet. So will Pinkelle make it down to Singapore after all or will she have to spend the weekend here?

Stay tuned…

A Sniff Down Memory Lane

I just got back from a painful visit to the dentist. What I thought was the crowning of a wisdom tooth turned out to be a gum infection instead. Oh dear, and I thought I was getting wiser! :P I shall not go into the gory details but 4 shots and lots of blood later, I’m back on an early day off work, high on my painkillers. I’m such a wuss when it comes to pain!

On an aside, you know how sometimes smells can evoke such a powerful memory? I came back just now and when I approached the lift lobby of our temporary digs, I suddenly smelt a long-forgotten smell. It was the slightly musty smell of my college residences when I was a student in Melbourne.

It was the smell of musty carpets and wood that have been trekked on by thousands of feet that had passed through its halls. The smell of late night instant noodles and pizza suppers. The smell of floor parties with the super cool Japanese tutor who cooked us an entire Japanese spread. The smell of a tiny forbidden kitten that spent several months living in a friend’s room. The smell of “Henry” the resident vacuum that does its noisy wheezy job sucking up the bugs from the carpet. The smell of “Truth & Dare” over Mark’s Pizza where we found out rather surprising things! The smell of heartfelt conversations that dragged on till 5am. The smell of one of my closest friend, E’s, horribly messy room and her amazing love for chocolate. Best of all, it was the smell of friendship, freedom, independence, support, love, tears and laughter from a time I’d almost forgotten.

It was surprisingly poignant as, for some unknown reason, I’d buried some of the best years of my life so deep inside me I didn’t realise I’ve missed it so much till that musty waft brought it all back. So while we can’t re-live the past, that little blast to the past was a nice walk down memory lane and perhaps a gentle reminder to me to once again, open my emails and pick up the phone to get back in touch with those who had made those years so fun.

Either that or it was an overdose of painkillers and I was in a drug-induced daze! ;) Time to pop another! :P

Harry Potter

poster1

I’ve seen Harry Potter! Ok, so I’m sure lots of you lucky bloggers out there have probably caught it on the premiere but after queuing really long just to secure tickets for a movie last weekend, please let me have some bragging rights! :P

It’s been ages since I’ve last seen a Harry Potter movie as I missed the last two and ages too since I read The Order of the Phoenix. So I ended up asking some really stupid questions like why was Hermoine at Hogswarts School when she was a full-blood Muggle or why Dumbledore turned into a Phoenix! *hides from booing Harry Potter fans*

I do wish, though, there was a Hogwarts in real life! I would have loved studying in a school like that! So much better than our pariah schools here! :P And do look out for little Luna Lovegood! I love her and the way she’s so spaced out, it’s amazing that she’s even all there!

Okay, okay, no more spoilers but if you’ve read the book then you’ll know that someone died in this movie and “He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named” is getting stronger. The storms are brewing, it’s becoming darker and the lack of light in the movie definitely reinforces this point!

So do whatever you need, whether beg, borrow or steal a ticket to one of the latest movies to hit our screens this summer! It’s a pretty good watch too as long as you leave your expectations from the book at home!

Finally, just one more stupid question - why does Voldemort need to look so ugly?! What happened to his nose?! *hides from more Harry Potter fans* If anyone knows, I’d love to know why!
