I went to work this morning, arrived at 8am and NO CARPARKS! ARGH! I forgot that it was the much-awaited or much-feared J Card members sale for cardholders of Jusco stores! Call me a Grinch but ooh I really hate these special member sales!
I got there at 8am and the entire carpark was fully taken up, even those lots usually reserved for office workers! In fact, when I finally parked my car and went up to the office, I noticed people were already clutching lots of turqoise bags of all shapes and sizes…at 8am! Goodness knows how early they must have been there to catch the opening at 7am!
So like every good little blogger, I forfeited my lunch and armed with my trusty little camera phone, braved my way into the frenzied crowd. There were so many people that I believe most must have taken leave just to get the best bargains. They cordoned off the whole Jusco area behind metal grilles with a small opening where you had to flash your J card to enter. This year, I didn’t see people carrying huge bags of diapers. They must have sold out by morning! Almost everyone there had laden trolleys filled to the brim and were shopping as if things were free with a glazed look in their eyes!
Buying is, unfortunately, the easy part. After grabbing your bargains, be prepared to join mile long queues such as these! Utter madness! Just the sight of the queue was enough to put me off getting anything!

Later that night when I left work, it was yet another horrible jam INSIDE the carpark with cars trying to leave and creating a massive jam where I was forced to sit in, unable to go forwards or backwards to look for alternative exits!
Thankfully this year seemed a little less chaotic. I remember the crazy madness last year when I tried to go out during lunch only to find that the roads around the mall going all the way to the Federal Highway were so jammed no one could move! That simply led to people who were stuck in the carparks for close to an hour just trying to exit! All these for some savings and probably more expenditure on things you didn’t need but was tempted to buy?
All I can say is I’m really glad it happens only once or twice a year!

That is why I am a grandmother. I really have no more energy to queue just to pay. I would rather forfeit all the specials and go without.

I also can’t stand the crowd anymore. I also don’t like going to Ikea like I used to because kids running around, jumping on beds give me a headache!
Put it down to old age, nothing against kids!
So, did you get anything after taking all these photos and enduring the traffic?
PE says: Yeah, the queues really turned me off although there were some pretty good bargains. I hate Ikea on weekends too and I’m not even a grandmother!
I did manage to get some wooden photo frames for my mom who had been looking for them at a great 70% discount!
Plus I was lucky, the queue on that floor was thankfully manageable! Looks like household items weren’t that popular!
gosh, is it still that popular? all these pre-sale madness? I’ve become quite lazy and less bothered with these extra discounts, unless it’s something really, really worth the trouble. heck, I even buy full-priced items now instead of waiting for a sale… just in case they’re gone by that time! heheh! *shopaholic me*
PE says: It is still hugely popular! Argh…I only wish it wasn’t! I guess maybe someday if we need diapers, we’ll be fighting the crowds too to get an RM5 discount! Hehe…
Btw, you never quite struck me as a shopaholic!
Hehe. I usually avoid the place like plague when I find out there’s a sale there.
PE says: I do too but unfortunately I can’t when I work there!
siao wan these people – free ah?
PE says: Yalor…the way they were buying it was as if everything was free! End of the day, only Jusco is laughing all the way to the bank!
I thought Jusco now has a J-card members’ day designed for members to CHOOSE which day they want to utilize their discounts? That will pave the way for a less chaotic shopping experience. Have they done away with that already?
PE says: Do they do that in Penang, GT? I didn’t hear of anything like that here and it was definitely on for only one day because when I popped in today to pick up some lunch, there wasn’t any indication of the crazy frenziness of the day before left!
Once a few years back I was one of those people contributing to the jam at MidValley. Heh. Some more I took leave to go. LOL! But back then the store opened at 10am, so I guess it wasn’t so bad for the workers. But I still *hate* the traffic jams at MidValley!
PE says: *Gasp* Rinnah! You were one of those! Hehe…hope you got lots of stuff then! I think the store opened at 7am this year which made it even crazier! But I totally agree. Midvalley jams are bad enough without needing a J-card sale to make it worse!
Down with dengue fever and gladfully missed all that frenzy. When I receive any pre-sale/sale/discount/members only/shut down sale invites I just treat them like junk mail. Call me a Grinch? *winks* (chanting pay with cash only policy)
PE says: Poor Aurelia! *hugs* hope you get better soon!
Looks like we ought to get ourselves the J card too which we always thought is pointless. Heehe…
PE says: Only if you don’t mind the crowds during the special J-card sale!
For me I always look forward for jcard day sale but , the jcard privillage is less attractive than jcard day sale. Only a few items are on 50% sale, others at 15% discount.
Do you know or have you notice which item have discount more than 50% on jcard privillage day?
Or what category of item that have generous discounts say 50%. I seldom found interesting item that have been discounted other than supermarket and ladies items here in jusco Taman Universiti JB.
