8.4 Richter Scale

Picture from Reuters

I went home after a dreary day at work yesterday, wanting to rant about some stuff that had been bothering me. Turned on the news only to hear how another massive earthquake measuring 8.4 Richter Scale had rocked Sumatera, Indonesia. It was so strong that tremors were even felt in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. Did you feel anything in your high-rise? I didn’t. Then again, I didn’t feel anything when the last Nias earthquake hit and people in KL condos felt the earth shaking under their feet! :P

It seems like that region of the world has been terribly unstable since the massive earthquake measuring over 9 hit them on December 26, 2004. Thankfully this time round, it didn’t lead to a tsunami although warnings were issued.

Perhaps Sumatera sitting on a dormant fault line that has suddenly decided to wake up. Or perhaps the famed Belt of Fire is starting to expand and starting to push out. If that’s the case, it may not be that long before Malaysia and Singapore, which have always been free of natural disasters, may be pushed within the that belt too which is a really scary thought although it probably wouldn’t happen in this century. Perhaps too, Mother Earth is stretching and figures she’s due for another continental shift which was how she became what we know her as today instead of Asia being connected to the Americas.

Whatever the reasons were for the earthquake, my thoughts and prayers go out to all of those who were affected by them and I hope we will never see another deadly tsunami again like the 2004 one in our lifetimes.

Suddenly, my own problems and rants don’t seem that big after all.

A few people asked if I had felt the tremors, but I didn’t…

    PE says: Neither did I!

I felt the tremors! Only one of the aftershocks this morning… I’m getting to be quite familiar with the sensation. LOL!

PE says: LOL! What did it feel like?!

I slept through it *pointing my finger at my dengue fever* but God please bless the victims. The 2004 horrors are still fresh!

PE says: So did I! *blushing* And I didn’t even have a fever to blame! :P

Pink Elle is normal. We sometimes don’t realise how blessed we are until disaster such as this wakes us up. I do every now and then count my blessings, in my bed, at work, driving or cooking. Sometimes I rant a bit and then come back down to earth. So, yes, we are all normal.

PE says: Thanks Aunty Judy. However, I think I still need to rant every now and then! :P
