Angels and Devils

I’ve been having a pretty devilish time. I like to think that everyone always has a little devil and angel sitting on their shoulders, trying to encourage them into doing good or bad. My angel usually wins but it looks like my angel got beaten up really badly recently!

I’ve been getting irritated by the smallest things, picking quarrels with loved ones where I saw things only to regret it minutes later, getting frustrated with lots of things and having to face some insecurities within me which pose a pretty big mental hurdle. It hasn’t been a pleasant time and I do miss the angel on my shoulder.

Hopefully my angel comes back soon.

Paris - My Famous Sister!

I opened today’s paper and what would you know it? My dear Sis is FAMOUS! :D

It’s lovely having a famous sister *stands in the limelight next to Paris*

She’s my best blog consultant and the one I always run to for help with sticky blog problems and she’s the one I giggle over funny blogs we both read. Like my bro said, “All the people they talk about have no real names!” :P

To Paris, you go girl! :) You deserve it!

I’ve replicated the article below for your reading convenience:

Paris Beaverbanks, 32, executive from Kuala Lumpur.

Blogs: The Fluff Must Go Somewhere (parisbeaverbanks.com), My Women Stuff (mywomenstuff.com), All About Shopping! (all-aboutshopping.com), Pink Parisian (foodie.parisbeaverbanks.com)

This blogger who goes by the moniker Paris Beaverbanks may have only blogged for a year but now runs four blogs, including a beauty and a shopping blog.

She is into beauty and skincare and started out by reviewing products for fun and to keep track of what works for her and what doesn’t.

“I like playing with makeup and experimenting with skincare products so ‘My Women Stuff’ is primarily about these. I thought it would be nice to write about my own experiences with the products as people like to read actual reviews before buying. It helps the consumer with their choices and maybe the manufacturer, too, to improve,” she says.

Over time, ‘My Women Stuff’ which started out as a product journal, then a product review site, has been expanded to cover anything about women – a bit like writing a woman’s magazine, she says.

But soon, she felt it was getting too messy to lump everything into one site so she started a separate blog on shopping. All about Shopping! – came about as an off shoot of My Women Stuff.

“It was meant to be about where to find stuff I have reviewed. I decided to dedicate it to shopping and its high points and pitfalls – from a consumer’s viewpoint,” she says. “I decided to write about my experiences with stores and what we, as consumers, should expect or stand for. These are subjects I’m familiar with.”

Paris started with blog advertising last December and earned enough to start up sites with her own domain in March.

“There are various ways to do it - blog advertising includes having advertisements, pay per click ads and doing paid or sponsored reviews.

“It can be very lucrative if you are hardworking and have a site with high traffic and good rankings. There are some bloggers who can live off their online income but for me, it still isn’t lucrative enough for me to give up my day job,” she laughs.

Paris’ inspirations and ideas come from articles online and print and from her own daily experiences.

“Sometimes, I give my comment on articles I’ve read or highlight things that might interest the public. You’d be surprised just how much you can write about from daily observations,” she says.

She gets about 250 hits a day and like all bloggers, she appreciates hearing from readers.

“I’m happy when they leave a comment to share their own experiences with the product I reviewed or tell me that the review or article was helpful,” she says.

Once she had a major cosmetics brand’s beauty salon offering a hefty discount on their beauty services for her readers.

Kids Say The Darnest Things!

kids-say-3

I love little kids when they’re starting to talk and learning to rationalise things in their cute little ways. My ex-colleague recently told us some stories about her little boy which had us in stitches.

She took her little son to watch Ratatouille but the tickets were unfortunately sold out so they opted for Rush Hour 3 instead. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker’s antics had her whole family in stitches until halfway through the show when the little boy piped up:

Mommy, Rat where?!

On a separate occasion, they went out for a seafood dinner and when the waitress brought a big plate of crabs, the little boy stared at it with huge eyes and asked:

Papa, papa…you’re eating PIDER* ah?!

LOL! Kids, don’t you just love them?!

*Pider = spider

Pink Is Good

leec1

Thanks to everyone who came by to wish me Happy Birthday! I love you all! :) It was a great birthday and a rather memorable one but more on that later.

I love pink and while some others laugh away at my fluffy little pink site and all my pink fluffiness, pink is a good colour just like how October is a good month (because it’s someone’s birthday!). And both combined (like Captain Planet *lol*) equals Pink for October, a special month dedicated to pinkness and Breast Cancer Awareness.

So, pink isn’t always fluffy and air-headed after all. It’s also the colour of Breast Cancer Awareness and the encouragement for funds to be raised for research so women everywhere in the world wouldn’t have to suffer in silence anymore. Pink is noble, pink is good and in this month, my little pink blog shall fully support Pink for October! :)
