Terry Fox Run 2007

PB040394

I’ve been really bad at updating Pink Elle. Sorry…but the recent happenings made me lose my blogging juice and inspiration. I didn’t even have time to visit other blogs so I’ve been seriously blog-deprived! But let’s hope this is a new beginning on the start of a new week!

Paris was really hardworking and blogged about her inaugural Terry Fox Run so this is my version! It was hard work getting her to come for the run but walk she did and she actually completed the whole circuit! :) Go girl! Heh…

Anyway, we started the day bright and early. We read and heard that parking around the Lake Gardens was limited so we got up really early to secure a parking space. A few kuih bahulu and a cup of coffee later, we were on our way. Along the way, we actually passed people who were jogging to Lake Gardens! :-O *gasp* Was that what they called their warm up?!

So we milled around the place a bit, checked out the Lensa photographers hard at work and munched on some free bananas and water. Kudos to the sponsors who were hard at work! I was initially a little worried about forgetting water and I thought it was really nice of them to provide free water before and all along the run!

The turn-out was huge and it was nice to see everyone with Terry Fox T-shirts. It’s a non-competitive run and they encourage everyone to turn up in any way they want - roller blades, bicycles or if you’re like our little chap here, your very own super all-terrain SUV buggy!

They had a short and energetic warm up session by Fitness First followed by one by some belly dancing group. I wonder how warming up your belly helps with running?! :P

And we were off!!

The crowd was huge and everyone geared up so when the horn was sounded, it was a massive exodus up the first incline of the trail. Inclines are always the first test that separates runners from walkers and as expected, the crowd started falling back. That actually made it pretty difficult for the runners as proper instructions were not provided and most of them had a lot of trouble dodging walkers and some even resorted to running on the ground next to the trail. Some walkers even insisted on walking all 4 in a row which made overtaking them almost impossible!

I took off in a jog so got separated from J who was sprinting far ahead and sis and JH who chose to walk briskly behind. Luckily we had arranged a meeting point at the end and I got there only to find that no one else was there! Hung around for a bit, and found sis and JH and some minutes later J turned up. The fella had done 2 rounds of the circuit as he felt 1 round was too short! :-O Talk about hard core!

The sponsors again did a wonderful job with providing lovely ice-cold Milo from the Milo van (just like school!), buns from High 5 and best of all, lovely muffins from KL Hilton! It was a great event - music was playing, people were eating and kids were running around and there was a real nice feel-good factor in the air at having completed a run for charity and cancer research.

We headed off after that for the promised Kin Kin noodles. 6 bowls of noodles, a big bowl of meatballs and drinks later, we concluded that the Terry Fox Run 2007 was indeed a great run! :)

Maybe with proper training, we’ll actually run next year!
