What’s the world coming to?
WHO has raised its health alert on the swine flu to Level 5 on its 6 level scale which indicates it fears a pandemic is imminent (source). All countries have been advised to implement pandemic preparedness plans as more flu cases are reported in over 11 countries, Germany and Austria being the newest. Even Malaysia has reported a person placed under “strict observation”.
However, in Asean, there’s yet another use of those masks that are fast-selling off pharmacy shelves – the coming haze!
Countries in the southern part of South-East Asia are preparing early for the possibility of a transboundary haze due to an anticipated prolonged dry spell. (source)
So if you haven’t got your masks, go get one because if the swine flu doesn’t make you sick…the haze probably would!
